Es Jahr im Norde: Arrival Camp Oulu

Langsam nistet sich der Herbst in Lappland ein und mit ihm das schöne Wetter. Waren die ersten beiden Wochen noch von Regen und wolkenverhangenen Tagen geprägt, strahlt nun alles in der warmen Herbstsonne. Warm heisst: 15 Grad, was mir im Vergleich zu den morgentlichen Minustemperaturen vorherige Woche wie eine Hitzewelle vorkommt.

Slowly autumn is coming to Lapland and with it the nice weather. The first two weeks it was raining all the time and one cloudy day followed the other, but now the warm autumn sun warms everything up again. Warm means: 15 degrees, which is in comparison to the temeperatures of last week a heatwave.

Dieses Wochenende fand das Arrival Camp in Oulu statt. Gemeinsam mit etwa zwanzig Austauschschülern aus den Regionen Lappland, Oulu und Kajaani konnte ich ein ganzes Wochenende lang aufschlussreiche Diskussionen zum Thema Austausch führen, finnisches Essen kosten (unter anderem Salmiakki: das ist slazige Lakritze und äusserst gewöhnungsbedürftig) und einfach das Beisammensein geniessen (ich glaube, ich habe selten so viel gelacht an einem Wochenende!).
Die achtstündige(!) Busfahrt hat sich definitiv gelohnt.
In Muonio konnte man am Samstag bereits Nordlichter sehen, aber da ich zu diesem Zeitpunkt wahrscheinlich entweder belgische Volkstänze tanzte oder mich mit Marshmallows an unserem Lagerfeuer vollstopfte, musste ich mich mit einem qualitativ nicht allzu hochstehenden Bild begnügen. Aber mit etwas Glück werde auch ich bald in den Genuss dieses Spektakels kommen.

The Arrival camp took place in Oulu this weekend. Together with around 20 exchange students who live in the regions Lapland, Oulu and Kajaani I could benefit from interesting discussions, taste Finnish food (among other things Salmiakki: That's salty liquorice and has a really special taste but actually it's not as bad as I thought it would be) and just enjoy the time together (I hardly ever laught this much at one weekend).
The eight hours(!) busdrive was definitely worth it.
On Saturday, you could see northern lights in Muonio but as I was either dancing Belgian folk-dances or eating marshmallows at our camp fire at that time, I only got a picture with not really good quality as it is not possible to take pictures of northern lights with your mobile phone.
But maybe I'll see this spectacle soon!

Am Montag folgte dann sogleich das nächste Highlight, da ich mit meiner Sportklasse einen Kanutrip unternahm.
Das Wetter war perfekt, über uns erstreckte sich ein strahlend blaues Himmelzelt und alles leuchtete grasgrün.
Zwar scheiterte ich kläglich bei dem Versuch das Kanu zu steuern, aber als Vorderfrau, die nur genügend Kraft zum Paddeln braucht, habe ich dann doch noch eine passende Aufgabe für mich gefunden.
Wir sind bis nach Schweden gefahren, um dort ein kleines aber feines Lagerfeuer zu entfachen und uns bei Keksen und Tee etwas zu erholen.
Da es am Abend noch immer ziemlich lange hell ist, sind wir nicht ganz im Sonnenuntergang zurückgepaddelt, aber ein Traum war es trotzdem
Leider habe ich nicht allzu viele Bilder von diesem Ausflug, da ich nicht riskieren wollte, mein Handy in finnisch-schwedisches Wasser fallen zu lassen.

On Monday there was already the next highlight because I went canoeing with my PE class.
The weather was perfect, the sky was clear blue and everything seemed to be greener than green.
I failed deplorably when I tried to steer the canoe but as soon as I could sit in front and just paddle, I found my profession.
We paddled to Sweden and there made a campfire and enjoyed our lives with tea and cookies.
As it gets dark still quite late in the evening, we didn't paddle back during the sunset but it was beautiful anyway.
Unfortunately I don't have many pictures of that trip because I didn't want to take the risk of dropping my phone into the water.
